About David

Hi, I’m David and I have two kids, ages 5 and 6, in the Manatee County school system, and I have another little one who is 2 at home.

My wife, Jacquelyn, and I have planted our roots here in Manatee County, and there are a few things that are concerning us in regards to education. I have a background in law and policy, and spent a lot of time in school myself.

First, I stand firmly against mask mandates, and even more firmly against critical race theory.

Next, I think one of the most important functions of the School Board is managing its budget. Regarding fiscal policy, I advocate for low taxes, reduced government spending, and minimal government debt. I also advocate for oxford commas.

Regarding social policy, I believe in traditional values, but I do not advocate for those values because I also believe in personal freedom.

We need to return to the basics: reading, writing, and arithmetic, but we also need to remain tech conscious — our classrooms, both in person and online, should be outfitted with the best, and that does not mean the most expensive.

I also think online learning is the way of the future, so we ought to trailblaze in that field — it can be done at a low cost, and students can help build it.

If you have any questions like, “Where did you go to school?” (Cooley Law) or “What are your thoughts on the budget?” Give me a call!

Vote NO

The current school board gave themselves a BILLION dollar budget, and did NOT prioritize teacher’s salaries — that’s reprehensible. Make them pay teachers out of the regular budget. Vote NO on this issue.

Recommended Nutrition

I think eating the right food and exercise is the key to a better home life and school life, for both children and parents (work life for parents), and leads to more stable moods, levels of energy, and overall better outcomes.

Vitamin supplementation:
Vitamin B
Vitamin C
Vitamin D
Zinc

Note: I don’t care how many celebrity chefs whine about it, red meat should be cooked to at least medium, but preferably medium well or well done — depending on who is preparing it.

TECHNOLOGY

I would like to see Manatee schools maintain it’s own platform on it’s own servers. Right now, it looks like manateeschools.net is hosted on Amazon servers somewhere in England.

NUTRITION

There are little things we can do better like sugars aren’t listed because it is just labelled as a carb. I understand that sugar is a carb, but there is a big difference between a spoonful of rice, and a spoonful of sugar.

FITNESS

You have heard of programs like Play 60 or Let’s Move. I’d like to see “Run 10.” A program where kids run for 10 minutes (or more — up to them) a day.

THE SWORD IN THE STONE (SITS)

POLICY PROPOSAL: SITS is a program where measures are focused on placing select high school seniors into mentorship programs in emerging sectors, like artificial intelligence, renewable and alternative energy, space exploration, and internet commerce, and tranditional sectors like agricultural, and fashion in pursuit of a stronger, more highly skilled workforce. This program is not for every student.

Mea culpa

In late 2015/early 2016, I performed penetration tests on state election servers which revealed several critical vulnerabilities. I discovered a trove of completely unprotected, unencrypted sensitive data, including login credentials (usernames, passwords, and challenge questions) for all of the Supervisors of Elections, and checked to see if some of those credentials worked.

After doing this, I knew it was my duty to turn myself in, so I wrote a report on what I had done and how they could fix it, and turned it over to the systems administrator at the Florida Division of Elections. The case was referred to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and I plead guilty to two counts of attempted access to a computer or electronic device without authority, a misdemeanor.
